Mount Hikurangi is located
in the Tairawhiti region on the East Cape of the North Island of
Aotearoa/New Zealand in the South
Pacific. Towering 1756 metres
above sealevel, the spectacular peak can be seen from Gisborne City, over
100km to the south.
The most eastward mountain
in New Zealand, and one of the highest, this peak will catch the first
rays of sunlight anywhere in the world at the dawn of 2000.
